September 13, 2022: Carleen Lyden Walker, Co-Founder and Executive Director, announced that both VADM Peter Gautier (Deputy Commandant for Operations) and RDML Wayne Arguin (Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy) will be adding their guidance to the discussions with VADM assisting in the presentation of the Awards at the North American Marine Environment Protection Association’s (NAMEPA) 15th Anniversary Annual Marine Environment Protection Conference and Awards Event. While shipping wrestles with a myriad of changes, it is also looking to the future and what shipping will look like in 15 years: what will the regulations look like? The markets? The fleets? The fuel? This year’s Annual Conference Program will feature industry professionals exploring the many facets of shipping’s future through discussion of their expectations, aspirations, and potential rewards. Leadership from winners of the Marine Environment Awards winners will be featured on a Roundtable discussion format.
“Shipping is in a transformational time, with maritime professionals seeking insight as to what the future holds,” observed Ms. Walker. “As a community, it is important to discuss and dissect the many pathways forward. One of NAMEPA’s hallmark traits is to provide a forum for such a discussion amongst industry, regulators and students.”
The conference will be followed by NAMEPA’s Annual Marine Environment Protection Awards (MEP Awards) Dinner recognizing the achievements of industry leaders, companies, organizations and government agencies in their efforts to “Save Our Seas.” The MEP Awards are given in recognition of an individual or organization’s innovative and extraordinary effort to commit themselves to preserving the marine environment as exemplified by a commitment to programs which have specific objectives set for environmental performance and improvement.
